There’s something about summer that makes us want to shed everything—layers of clothing, busy routines, heavy makeup, and even those elaborate skincare rituals that once felt necessary. The warmth draws us outside, inviting us to soak in life more slowly, more naturally.
But summer is also the season when your skin speaks up the loudest.
For many of my clients, this time of year brings a familiar cycle: irritation from the sun, dry patches despite humidity, and a sense that nothing in their routine is really “working.” The truth is, summer skin doesn’t need more products. It needs smarter choices. And it starts with one powerful shift in mindset:
Your skin doesn’t need to be controlled. It needs to be supported.
The beauty industry has trained us to believe that more is better—more acids, more exfoliation, more steps. But in the heat of summer, this can backfire.
Here’s why:
UV rays are stronger and can easily inflame freshly exfoliated or overtreated skin.
Sweat, humidity, and product build-up can clog pores faster.
Barrier function is compromised when skin is stripped of oils it actually needs.
In short: your skin is working overtime already. It doesn’t need aggressive interventions—it needs protection and nourishment.
Let’s be honest: the sun isn’t the villain. In fact, our bodies rely on it for Vitamin D, hormonal balance, circadian rhythm regulation, and even mood support. But the relationship must be respectful.
Between 10 AM and 4 PM, UV rays are strongest. That’s when your skin is most vulnerable to sunburn, pigmentation, and long-term collagen damage.
This is why I recommend wearing broad-spectrum sunscreen daily—even when you’re indoors near windows. My go-to is EltaMD, which is fragrance-free, lightweight, and effective for even sensitive skin.
Outside of peak hours, particularly early morning and late afternoon, you can enjoy the sun more freely. If your weather app shows a UV index under 3, and your doctor hasn’t advised otherwise, feel free to absorb some natural Vitamin D—no sunscreen needed for 10–15 minutes. Just listen to your skin.
Certain professional treatments are best saved for cooler months when your skin isn’t constantly exposed to the elements. These include:
Dermaplaning
Microdermabrasion
Deep chemical peels
Laser resurfacing
These methods thin the skin barrier temporarily. Combine that with UV exposure, and the risk of inflammation and pigmentation increases dramatically.
At Speranzi Facial Spa, I encourage clients to resume these treatments in October, when your skin is more likely to respond with resilience and recovery.
Summer is the season for:
Hydration-based facials
Gentle exfoliation using enzymes or lactic acid
Lymphatic facial massage
Facial misting or oxygen infusion to cool and calm inflammation
Our most requested treatments this season—The Glow-Up Facial and The Pick-Me-Up Facial—deliver all of this in a gentle, effective way.
Clients leave feeling fresh, plump, and calm. They often say things like, “I feel like I don’t even need makeup anymore.” And that’s the goal: a skin routine that supports, not suffocates.
One of the biggest revelations I see in women over 40 is this:
You don’t need more products. You need the right ones—and consistency.
Too often, we layer products with competing ingredients. A serum for glow, a cream for anti-aging, a toner because someone on Instagram said it was a must.
But your skin can’t function under confusion.
My advice: simplify.
Start with the essentials:
Vitamin C serum (like our Ascorbic Acid Serum) in the morning
Lightweight moisturizer that seals in hydration (HA Water Cream is ideal)
Broad-spectrum SPF daily
Optional: collagen boosting, peptide-rich product at night, like our Firming Peptide Serum
When applied consistently, these become your skin’s daily nutrition—not just surface care. They feed, protect, and repair on a cellular level.
Skincare doesn’t stop at the surface. Your lifestyle is skincare, too.
In summer, support your glow from the inside out with:
Water-rich foods like cucumber, watermelon, and celery
Pomegranate seeds, which are proven to support your body’s natural resistance to UV damage
Cooling herbal teas like peppermint or chamomile
Daily movement (sweat clears your lymphatic system!)
Stillness—your nervous system affects your skin more than you think
And don’t forget: your face is a map of your internal world. If you’re feeling inflamed, exhausted, or out of sync—your skin will often show it.
You don’t have to chase a trend or follow a complicated routine to have glowing skin this summer.
In fact, the more you honor your body’s rhythm, the more your skin will respond with balance and vitality.
Let the sun in—wisely.
Simplify your skincare.
Trust your skin’s ability to heal when given the right support.
And when in doubt, reach out. I’m here to guide you.
